Who are K.I.C.S?

Katherine Isolated Children's Service (K.I.C.S.) became an incorporated association in 1988.

K.I.C.S. employs a mix of university trained Early Childhood Teachers and experienced staff, who travel an area of 760,000 square kilometres with their partners to deliver playgroups for children who are socially or geographically isolated.

We are governed by a board of management voted in each year at our Annual general meeting. The board usually consists of parents using the service and other associated and interested individuals throughout the Katherine region.

The board includes a representative of the Katherine branch Isolated Children's Parent's Association (ICPA), Katherine School of the Air (KSA), the board may also include principals or teachers of bush schools, an aboriginal representative and interested members of the public.

K.I.C.S. is a full member of the Australian Early Childhood Association and the National Association of Mobile Services. We liaise with the Isolated Children's Parents Association and the Katherine School of the Air.

K.I.C.S. employed a second team in 2005 so children and families are visited twice as often - approximately every 2 months, during the dry season months of March through to December.
